Teaching aims

Knowledge: Learn the Present Continuous Tense and some new words. (mall,  pool,TVshow,cleaning,reading,shopping,swimming,playing, watching TV, doing homework, eating dinner, talking on the phone)

Ability:     learn to talk about what people are doing. Understand and use the words and expressions with the Present Continuous Tense in the daily life.

Moral education: the ability to cooperate and deal with the difficulties. Improve the students`observation capability and motivate the students` interest in English

Key points: What are you doing? I’m watching TV.

          What is he/ she doing? He/ She is cleaning.

          What are they doing? They aren talking on the phone

          Is Bill doing homework? No, she isn’t. she’s writing a letter.

Difficult points:1. the structure of doing and the use of the Present Continuous Tense,especially the questions and “Yes/No ” answers.

              2. use the Present Continuous Tense correctly and how to describle what are happening with the Present Continuous Tense

Teaching methods: pairwork; learn by doing; multimedia

Teaching procedures

Step1 Warming up

Greet the students as usual.

T: We are having an English class. What are we doing now? (help the students answer) We are having an English class now.

Step2 Presentation

1,First watch a video on the screen. From the picture, we know some students are talking,some students are playing computer games.

Today we are going to learn Unit5 I’m watching TV Section A and talk about “What are people doing?”

Then do some actions and let the students guess “What am I doing?”Then write “I’m opening the door/writing/running.”

Then look at the pictures on the screen and ask “What’s the boy doing?/What are they doing?”, then help the students to answer. Then let the students practise in pairs to ask and answer.

In the same way, practise in pairs according to the next picture.Underline the Ving.

2, Ask the students to look at the screen and find the similarity. Explain the Present Continuous Tense

Be (am/ is /are) +V ing

3, Do some exercises about the struture of doing.1.go---- going  watch---watching  do—doing 2. write---writing   take----taking   give----giving   3.get----getting   run---running   begin----beginning  shop---shopping

Step3 practice

Show some pictures and let the students ask and answer in pairs. Talk about “ What are the people doing in the picture?”

Eg:  What are you doing? I am doing my homework.

     What is he /she doing? He / She is cleaning.

     What are they doing ? They are talking on the phone.

Step4 Listening

Let the students take out of a piece of paper and listen to the material about 2a ,then answer the questions. In the same way, listen to the material about 1b.

Step5 Activities

1)  let some students do some actions in front of the class and say

 What is he doing?   He is cleaning the door.

  Is he watching TV?  Yes, he is . /No, he isn`t, he is cleaning the door.

 Work in pairs and practise the dialogue.

2) group work

Divide the students into 8 groups. Ask some students to the front to do some actions with their backs to the students while the others guess what the student is doing.

  Eg:  Is he reading books? No he isn`t (etc)

   The student who are right can be awarded a flower for his group. At last the group who get the most flowers are the winners.

   Then look at the part2c,work with partner and practice the pictures. Please pay attention to some expressions (talk with ; write a letter; eat dinner; do homework)

Step6 Summary

This class we mainly learn the Present Continous Tense, especially the structure of doing and the forms of questions and “Yes/No”answers.

Step5 Homework

Draw a picture of your family or your friends in the park or at school, describe what they are doing.
